Introduction to Defence

Our one-day Introduction to Defence course is for those new to the provision of services and consultancy to the Australian Department of Defence. Our expert presenters introduce the background and history of the Department and the Australian Defence Force and provides an overview of its structure and organisation including each of the Groups and Services. The legislative, regulatory, policy and management context within which Defence operates is described. Importantly, expected Defence and Public Service behaviours and responsibilities are outlined. Focus is then on the Defence capability management processes and activities that lead to the expenditure of approximately $30billion annually on the acquisition and sustainment of military equipment. Finally, the course introduces the role of defence industry in supporting Defence capability. See Course Outline.
Capability Management Overview

Our one-day Capability Management—Overview course provides a brief overview of how the Australian Defence Organisation delivers and manages capability throughout the life of Defence capabilities. Attendees from Defence, other government agencies, and defence industry can gain an understanding of capability management processes, frameworks, and documents produced, as well as related government and Defence processes. This course also introduces the key inter-related professional practices that are applied to a capability system during its procurement and in-service life including systems engineering, program management, project management, product management, financial management, procurement and contracting, integrated logistics support, risk reduction, assurance and enterprise architecture.
